Facebook Page Or Personal Profile For A Home Business
This post was last updated on 13 September 2022
Is it better to have a Facebook page or profile to build your business online?
In this post, I’ll cover the positives and negatives of each Facebook platform.
However, it’s important to highlight that you can have success just by using either one method … or both.
The only difference is, one method will not be able to allow you to scale your business fast.
And if you’re serious in taking the business to the next level, you want to have the option to grow the business long term … and automate most of the prospecting stuff.
Which you do want … right?
I bet you do.
So let’s look at the differences between Facebook personal profile and page.
Facebook Business Page vs Personal Profile
1. Facebook Personal Profile.
There’s no question about it, you can have success with your own personal profile.
I’ve seen many well known marketers, networkers, entrepreneurs and friends make it work in their niche using their personal profile.
The big plus is …
It’s FREE to use.
And it’s the quickest way to get started on Facebook, especially if you do not have an advertising budget.
To kickstart it all, here’s three strategies to build your business. It will show you how to recruit and build your business with a personal profile.
But no matter the strategy you move forward with, know your target audience and lead with value that will benefit your audience.
However, please bare in mind the first negative below.
And It’s a BIG one too.
Negative #1 : Limited Reach
The big issue with a personal profile is that you cannot have more than 5,000 friends.
Plus, if you’re looking to take the business to the next level, you simply cannot.
Fact is, good old Facebook doesn’t want you to use it as a platform for business.
It’s against Facebook’s policy to operate a business from your personal profile.
In other words, your Personal Profile should be the place for keeping up with friends and family.
And if Facebook believes that you are using your personal profile against their terms and conditions like …
– Posting a bunch of self serving ad links on the newsfeed, or
– Private messaging people the wrong way
You can risk an account suspension.
If Facebook ever sees that you are using your personal profile for business purposes, such as posting a bunch of links and crowding everybody else’s News Feed with a bunch of self-serving junk they’re not really interested in, then you could have your account suspended.
The consequences are worse if you use private messaging in the wrong way. You could be permanently banned.
Negative #2 : You Can’t Advertise.
This is a major problem.
Especially if you want to grow the business big and fast.
You cannot run ads from a personal profile.
That means …
If you want to get your message out to a larger audience, and in quick time, you simply cannot.
Without a tool to expose your business on a wide scale, you will be seriously disadvantaged.
Which conveniently leads me to …
2. Facebook Business Page
Facebook Page
Look, if you want to scale your business in a manageable way, then a Business Page will solve the problems of using a personal profile.
The only minor drawback, you won’t have friends and family interacting on the page.
But you do have the option to ‘invite’ them to check out the page.
Let’s delve into it more …
Positive #1: Enormous Reach.
Using a Facebook page gives you the platform to massively widen your exposure and attract the people most interested in what you have to offer.
And the biggest benefit of starting a Facebook Page, you can leverage their advertising platform and reach out to over 1.5 billion monthly active users
For as little as two dollars a day, you can start running Facebook Paid Ads to get your message out to a target audience and start generating leads to your business.
What’s more you can run ads that re-targets a ‘Custom Audience’, your warm audience.
These are a group of people who have engaged on your videos and posts, and visited your website.
And will be more receptive to your content and marketing.
With Facebook paid ads, you can passively grow your audience and create a steady stream of new prospects who are eager to learn more about your business.
Which is a nice way to scale the business.
Positive #2 : Keeps It Professional.
My personal choice of using Facebook.
I like to keep it personal with my personal profile.
Only when a friend or family member wants to check out what I do, I’ll send an invite.
But with my Facebook Page, it’s my hub for building the business.
And building my brand.
Not only does it keep Facebook happy, it’s more professional to do so.
Positive #3: A Place For Lead Generation
A Facebook page is designed for the use of generating more leads and sales from an ever-expanding audience.
Which is awesome for a business.
Just by consistently posting content of value (Live video, videos, posts, images) to people in your niche, you can potentially gain new fans and followers organically … FREE.
Positive #4: A Business Asset.
The huge advantage of using a Page is that as you are operating a business professionally, you’re building an asset.
Overtime, this asset becomes a massive time saver where you can set an engagement strategy, and let it run on autopilot.
Can you imagine how much time you can save?
Unlike a personal Profile, you have to continually post new stuff, annoy a whole bunch of friends and family, see the post vanish in a heartbeat without much traction.
And more likely, most people you’ve ‘friended’ are probably using the same strategy.
Basically spamming each other, and taking up each other’s newsfeed, which drowns each other’s posts out.
However, with a Facebook Page, you can post out your informative posts, generate more exposure organically and start paid ads to passively generate leads, customers, and recruits even while you sleep, or out for a round of golf.
Positive #5 : Schedule Posts And Story.
This is a huge time saver.
Using the Facebook Business Suite from a laptop or a mobile device, you can easily batch your content and have it scheduled to go out on autopilot.
In fact, I have 2 weeks of content scheduled and ready to go.
Which you can’t do on a personal profile.
With that said, start your Facebook marketing journey by focusing on the second strategy as outlined in this article Two Facebook Marketing Strategies To Focus On Building now.
In closing …
When it comes to choosing between a Facebook Profile or Page, there’s no right or wrong.
To be successful on either platform, it’s really about connecting with your ideal audience and building up the trust factor.
Which means getting crystal clear on your market, like what are their problems (not yours) and finding solutions to help fix them.
But if you really want to scale a business, then a Facebook business page is the way to go.
Unlike a personal profile, you can use a page to promote your business and personal brand online.
And it has many advantages.
You have the option to use Facebook advertising to grow a warm audience … and in quick time.
You do have the ability to schedule out your posts on autopilot.
Which gives you both leverage and automation.
And helps position you as a person of trust, and as a professional entrepreneur.
